2nd Degree Black Belt under Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller
Jose Portillo Jr. is a 2nd Degree Black Belt under Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller. He began training Jiu-Jitsu as a teenager in 2007 before attending the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While attending University he continued sharpening his Jiu-Jitsu skills, becoming a well known and successful competitor on the local and national tournament scene.
In 2014 Jose accepted the Head instructorship at Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Austin, Texas. Over the course of 10 years he has created multiple World Champions and introduced Jiu-Jitsu into the lives of many. Now living in Cyprus with his wife Ismini, he continues sharing his passion for Jiu-Jitsu with the students at Athlos Jiu-Jitsu. His goal is to spotlight the emerging Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene in Cyprus and cultivate future European and World Champions.

Fernando Koupparis is a Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller and Jose Portillo. Fernando's Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 2010 in Paphos, Cyprus. Seeking growth beyond the island's small Jiu-Jitsu scene, he moved to Austin, Texas—one of the sport's most competitive environments—where he trained under Jose Portillo at Paragon Austin, refining both his technique and mindset.
Back in Cyprus, Fernando co-founded BJJ Cyprus, helping connect the local community with the global Jiu-Jitsu scene through interviews with world champions and the organization of key events that contributed to the sport's growth on the island.
In 2023, he co-founded Athlos Jiu Jitsu alongside Jose Portillo and his sister Ismini Kouppari. Today, he serves as both coach and owner, focused on developing skilled athletes and fostering a strong, supportive community.
